Business Internet

Business Wi-Fi & Internet Readiness Checklist

Document coverage, capacity, equipment, guest access and fallback needs before changing a business internet service.

A faster internet plan does not automatically fix weak Wi-Fi, old cabling or overloaded network equipment. Separate the external service from the network inside the premises, then assess both.

Map Real Usage

  • Count staff, customers, phones, computers, printers, cameras and other connected devices.
  • List video meetings, cloud backups, large file transfers, voice services and remote access.
  • Note busy periods and expected growth.
  • Identify systems that stop work when the internet is unavailable.

Inspect the Premises Network

  • Mark weak-signal and high-use areas.
  • Record router, switch and access-point models and locations.
  • Separate guest access from internal business systems where practical.
  • Check cabling, power, cooling and secure equipment placement.
  • Confirm who owns the equipment and administrator credentials.

Plan for Failure and Change

Consider whether the business needs a mobile or secondary connection, how phones operate during an outage, and who contacts the provider. Test the failover process if continuity matters.

Practical note: Retail plan speeds are subject to technology, location, network conditions, equipment and provider terms. Confirm address eligibility and the current Critical Information Summary before ordering.
