Refurbished Devices
Buying a Refurbished Phone Checklist
Check network status, activation locks, battery, cameras, charging, support life and warranty terms before buying.

“Refurbished” can describe very different inspection and repair processes. Ask what was tested, what was replaced and what the seller will do if a covered fault appears.
Identity and Ownership Checks
- Confirm exact model, storage, colour and region variant.
- Check that activation lock or account lock is removed.
- Ask about IMEI or network-blocking status.
- Verify the device can be reset and activated for the buyer.
- Obtain a receipt with seller and device details.
Functional Checks
- Display image, touch and brightness.
- Battery condition and charging by cable and wireless where applicable.
- Front and rear cameras, microphones and speakers.
- Buttons, biometrics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mobile network.
- Frame, rear glass, ports and signs of liquid or impact damage.
- Current software version and remaining support suitability.
Terms and Total Cost
Compare the device, included accessories, warranty, return process and setup or data-transfer needs with a suitable new or alternative model. Very old hardware may be cheap but have a shorter useful security and application-support life.
Practical note: Consumer guarantees may apply in addition to any written warranty. Keep the receipt and written description of the device’s condition.
