Device Management
Device Management for Small Business Explained
Learn what MDM can control, where ownership and consent matter, and how it fits with broader IT support.

Device Management helps a business avoid configuring every work device by hand. It can make setup, support and lost-device response more consistent, but it should be introduced with clear ownership, authority, consent and privacy expectations.
What It Can Commonly Help With
- Install approved apps and business settings.
- Configure Wi-Fi, email or security requirements.
- Separate or protect business data where the platform supports it.
- Show whether eligible devices meet required settings.
- Lock, wipe or reassign enrolled devices where authorised and supported.
Questions to Resolve Before Enrolment
- Is the device business-owned or personally owned?
- Which information can administrators see?
- Which restrictions and remote actions are authorised?
- What happens to business and personal data when a device leaves?
- How will exceptions, replacements and lost devices be handled?
How MDM Fits With Managed IT
MDM is a device-control layer, not a complete help desk, backup system or cyber-security guarantee. Some businesses use it alone; others combine it with support for users, email, networks and other systems.
Practical note: My IT Shop publishes Device Management from $39 per month. Device count, platform, ownership, controls and setup requirements affect the final scope and price.
