What Does a Small Business Website Cost in Australia?
Understand the scope and ongoing costs behind a website quote without relying on a misleading one-size-fits-all figure.

Two websites with the same number of pages can require very different work. A useful quote explains what will be designed, written, configured, tested and supported—and which costs continue after launch.
What Changes the Build Cost
- Template adaptation versus a custom design system.
- Number and complexity of page layouts.
- Copywriting, photography and content migration.
- Forms, bookings, ecommerce, payments or external integrations.
- Accessibility, analytics, search setup and performance work.
- Rounds of feedback, approvals and training.
Separate Build and Ongoing Costs
Ask which costs are one-off and which recur. Domains, web hosting, email, paid plugins, maintenance, content updates, advertising and ongoing optimisation may be separate.
- Who registers and owns the domain?
- Is hosting included, and for how long?
- Who maintains WordPress, plugins and backups?
- Are analytics and Search Console configured?
- What happens if you move to another provider?
Compare Deliverables, Not Only Totals
Provide each supplier with the same brief. Compare the page list, functionality, content responsibilities, mobile testing, launch tasks, warranty or support terms and ownership. A low quote with unclear exclusions can become difficult to compare later.
Practical note: My IT Shop also publishes Australian web hosting at $49 per month. Hosting is a separate ongoing service from the website build unless a written quote says otherwise.
